KnowNow's open architecture does not require deploying a particular technology or programming environment, thereby freeing developers immediately to use existing systems, languages and tools for desktop integration. Streamlining the development process improves flexibility and promotes incremental adoption: two key advantages in building dynamic, loosely coupled services across disparate applications and infrastructure.

The KnowNow approach is evolutionary. By extending the use of Internet protocols such as HTTP beyond the limitations of client-initiated transactions, communications can now become bi-directional – that is, initiated by either the client or server. With KnowNow, servers are able to proactively notify an end user or client when additional information is available. Other solutions invariably involve the adoption of new and proprietary protocols, making integration across organizations difficult and often committing the user to a specific technology.

KnowNow Microservers – zero-install, lightweight client-side code that deliver client/server richness through a persistent HTTP or HTTPS connection between a Web page and application servers -- both inside and outside the corporate firewall.
