Content management systems are the new way to create a variety of types of dynamic content on the web, as well as provide facilities for easy creation and updating of web content. There are a wide variety of content management systems available, from CMS systems provided by ASPs, open source content management systems, and proprietary frameworks and languages for content management. This session will outline the basics of content management systems, a review of options, tips on choosing an appropriate CMS, and best practices for implementation of content management systems.
In this session, we will solicit audience questions on CMS approaches and options, as well as give attendees concrete resources and ideas to help them begin to think about how to implement CMS, and work with their clients in choosing and implementing a CMS.

Ben Shichman has over 10 years of experience in web and software development, systems analysis and project management. He has been providing consulting for non-profit organizations since 1997. Currently a principal with South End Interactive, he offers a variety of technical and strategic services for non-profits.
Phil Glaser is Principal and Software Architect of Sustainable Software Solutions, LLC. Phil has over 10 years of experience in technical communication, web design, content management, and telecommunications software development. He has worked for a number of small and large companies and organizations, including Service Employees International Union,Intel, IBM, Dialogic, Aries Systems International, Harvard Business School, and Place Runaway House. Phil founded Sustainable Software Solutions, LLC, for the purpose of helping non-profit organizations and green businesses use advanced software technologies to achieve their objectives.
Bob Doyle is CEO of skyBuilders.com. He has been inventing tools (and occasional toys) for people since shortly after Harvard Ph.D. in late 60's. Managed ground-based observing program for SkyLab astronauts (1970-72). Founded Super8 Sound (low-cost film production tools 1973). Invented 6 electronic handheld games (including Merlin, Wildfire 1975-80) for Parker Brothers. Developed hand-held computer terminal (iXO telecomputer 1981). Developed/programmed first desktop publishing program (MacPublisher 1984) in the year of the Mac (before PageMaker). Digital Video Editor for NewMedia magazine (1994-99). Michelle Murrain has been involved in software development, particularly as a tool for biomedical research and education, since 1979. She taught at Hampshire College from 1989 through 1999, as Assistant and Associate Professor of Biology. Michelle has been involved in developing content and applications for the web, specifically for research and educational purposes, since 1995. In 1996, Michelle started a consulting practice that serves the non-profit and educational sectors, primarily in the areas of developing database-driven web-sites, cross-platform networks and the implementation of Linux, and strategic technology planning.
