Bitflux Editor Workshop

The Bitflux team will present its Wysiwyg XML Editor called Bitflux Editor. With the Bitflux Editor you can edit your content semantically while displaying it to users and editors in its final form. This means that you have all the advantages of XML and word-processor WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) presentation.

At the moment there exists a Mozilla/Netscape version which is 100% cross-plattform that you can use on the Mac, Windows, Linux and any other OS. This can't be said of any IE-based Editor. Nevertheless, as IE is in widespread use, thus we are looking for people who want to collaborate on a Windows version of the Bitflux Editor.

Bitflux Editor projects include the University Hospital of Zurich and Bitflux' own site. Since its open source date on September 10, 2002, the number of Content Management Systems using it has grown rapidly. The newest additions are the Wyona CMS project for the University of Zurich site and the Silva (Zope) project of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETH).

Midgard - Framework for Content Management

Midgard is a PHP-based framework for content management. The Midgard platform providers CMS developers with multiple layers of content management features from simple templating solutions to complex business applications and the MidCOM component model.

The presentation will introduce Midgard as a development platform, with several content management applications built on the Midgard framework and the three different Midgard implementations, Midgard, Rexgard and Midgard-Lite.

Midgard is a production-proven Open Source platform powering hundreds of web sites and eBusiness implementations internationally.

OpenCMS

OpenCms is a Java based content management solution with a large set of features.

With the recently released Flex version, full support for JSP is included in the system.

The presentation will give an introduction to the system, provide an overview of the available features and also include an extended live demonstration.

The Red Hat CCM Content Management System

The Red Hat CCM Content Management System (RHCMS) is an open-source CMS, based on the CCM core web application framework (formerly Arsdigita ACS and CMS). The RHCMS is Java web application, which offers many of the features generally expected from a CMS: structured storage of content, flexible publication cycles for content, fine-grained representation of content in an RDBMS, workflow, role- and permission-based access checking, use of XSL and JSP templates, import and export of content in a DB-independent XML format, and user and group management.

The talk has two aims: give an introductory presentation in the current capabilities of the RHCMS, and on highlighting one or two technically interesting features that we are currently implementing. The target audience are technically sophisticated users of CMS's and developers of other open source CMS.

ZOPE

Zope has become known as an application server that specializes in helping build content management systems. The CMF is a Zope framework that lets developers quickly building a sophisticated content management system.

This presentation shows developers how to create a custom content type for the CMF. Coverage is also given to the areas under discussion for OSCOM interoperability.

Plone and the CMF using ZOPE

A brief introduction to the ZOPE Application Server would progress to the birth of the Content Management Framework (CMF), one of the first Component-like frameworks inside of ZOPE.

The CMF promotes re-usability in a number of different ways: content type reuse, skin reuse and shares familiar paradigms with users of the CMS.

Plone is a implementation of the CMF which is aimed at providing a pleasant "out-of-the-box" experience. Plone allows developers to customize a framework to quickly expose and customize content management functionality to end users. I would also demonstrate a typical deployment of Plone and how you can change the 'delivery' interface (skin) from the 'administrative' interface.

Xopus: a browser based TRUE wysiwyg validating XML editor

In this presentation we will show Xopus 2 in a demo on Internet Explorer and/or Mozilla. Furthermore we will explain its functionality and basic architecture.

Basically, we will tell you how it's possible to edit XML in a validated way through an easy to use WYSIWYG interface using any standard XML, XSL and XSD/Schema.

We will also explain what our future plans are and we hope to learn from the audience what features we should focus on during the next months.

Questions:

- does a generic standard for check-in/check-out/edit xml documents exist?

- is there a standard concerning workflow we should comply to?

Community CMS Interop

Both Xoops and PostNuke take a bottom-up approach to CMS. Rather than creating content in the ivory tower and preventing publication of ideas through elaborate approval cycles, they lower the barriers for site users to contribute. This community approach fills an important gap in the CMS landscape. Interop for community sites means facilitating access to content such as news, discussions etc. We look at ways to leverage interop from an end-user perspective.

DBPrism CMS: How to implement a security model using VPD (Virtual Private Database)

This session will show the implementation of DBPrism CMS security layer using Oracle's Virtual Private Database functionality (VPD), this unix like security system could be re-used in any other database oriented CMS which uses Oracle databases for storing its content assets.

DBPrism CMS is an Open Source database oriented CMS built on top of two open source projects, DBPrism Servlet Engine Framework (www.plenix.com/dbprism/) and Apache Cocoon 2 Framework ( xml.apache.org/cocoon/).

DBPrism CMS is a pure XML Content Management System that uses the key functionality of Apache Cocoon Framework and Oracle XML database, the key functionalities are described in the list at www.dbprism.com.ar/dbprism/doc/cms/CMS.html.

DBPrism CMS was introducted in the chapter 21 of the book "Professional XML Databases" by Wrox Press, but this chapter covers a old version of DBPrism CMS based on Cocoon 1. DBPrism Servlet Engine is also described in the chapter 8 of the book "Oracle and Open Source" by O'Reilly.

Open-Source Search Engines and CMS Integration

I will describe the leading open source search engines, including SWISH-E, ht://Dig, ASPSeek, mnoGoSearch and Lucene. I'll also talk about how they could communicate with CM systems to trigger indexing when new information is published.
