skyBuilders.com > Overview > Site Navigation

Like any web site, the skyBuilders.com site works on multiple levels. It also has an outer site and an inner site (where you are working inside the timeLines database-backed web application itself). The outer site is made up of the Calendar frame to the left and apparently ordinary HTML pages on the right like this one.

You may navigate these content pages by hyperlinks separated by "pipes" ( | ) at the bottom of these pages - theSky | Company | Products, etc. - or by hyperlinks in the body.

Near the top of these outer-site pages is a "drill-down" path that lets you hyperlink back upwards in the outer site hierarchy - skyBuilders.com > Overview > Site Navigation.

Another way to navigate the site (and check that you have visited most sections) is to use our Site Map. Links there will be purple for visited sections.

Green links open our Glossary page in a new window. When you click on a green glossary link, you jump to the gloss for that link.

The Help link in the upper right corner of outer-site pages illustrate many of these points.

The Logo in the upper left corner is always a link to the Home page.

At the top of each outer level page is a Menu Bar like the one in the timeLines interface. We hope you will like the drop-down menus as a powerful site navigation tool.

Inside timeLines, the Menu Bar will be a skyBuilt page (created dynamically by a client-side builderPage). Inside timeLines, the two drop-down menus let you select the Module and the Context you are working in, and the Menu Bar will change color for each Module.

Here, in the outer site, the Menu Bar lets you navigate the top two levels of the outer site by selecting from the drop-down menus. Unfortunately, this Menu Bar is not currently in a frame so it scrolls off the top.

To enter timeLines, you must register as a Guest (anonymous) or as a Member. Once inside, your User Name or "a Guest" will appear under the skyBuilders logo (and above the Calendar). This will be the only guarantee that you are actually inside timeLines web application (and not in this outer site, which has similar page design elements).

The CalendarBuilder frame on the left (a builderPage creates the skyBuilt page in that frame) lets you see some of the timeLines magic at work on the outer site. When you change a date in the Calendar, the skyBuilders server sends you a copy of this right-hand page that is scheduled ("timeLined") for the date you choose. You are now navigating the outer web site in the time dimension.

If you click on a date before any Pages have been "timeLined," you will be taken to the Persistent Archive (pArc) for the page, which lists all the available versions of the page. If you click on a date in the future...? (It will depend on your privileges!)

Inside timeLines, the Calendar works with the timeTraveller control to let you zoom the timeLines display in to 5-second intervals and out to years, and jump back and forth into the past and the future.

And inside timeLines, Help links will be different in every module and context.
